WORLD SCHOOL 2006: TEACHERS' CHARTER

We, as teachers, want to raise awareness of the seriousness of damage to the environment and to the interdependence of the ecosystems of the world; equipping our students with the necessary knowledge about local to global issues thus improving their ability to create a sustainable environment.

Through a curriculum appropriate to different age groups we will provide students with the knowledge and understanding of their immediate and wider environment.

The following areas will be addressed:

  • facts and concepts concerning various aspects of the environment
  • local, regional, national and international problems
  • rules, regulations and legal provision for the protection, preservation and conservation of the environment

By using a cross curricular approach we will help students

  • to apply their knowledge through organization and analysis of information in a critical way
  • to form reasonable opinions based on evidence
  • to develop the ability to foresee what changes are required in the future.

It is necessary for teachers and schools to cultivate the values of personal responsibility, awareness, respect and tolerance in our students in order to achieve an attitude of social responsibility. This sense of social responsibility will help to create a community that can live in a sustainable environment.
